RICHARD MEYNE
Oelwein
Richard Thomas Meyne, 62, of Oelwein, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2017, at Covenant Hospital in Waterloo. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 1, at Geilenfeld Funeral Home in Oelwein. Memorial services will then begin at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
Richard was born in Oelwein on July 21, 1955, to parents, Harold and Estefana (Lujan) Meyne. He graduated from Oelwein High School, Class of 1974. He then earned his degree in welding from NICC-Calmar. He was a master welder and had been employed with Speedy's Manufacturing in Oelwein.
His love of woodworking, from high school woodshop class, had then led him to employment with Wood Harbor in Mason City. Richard then moved to Colorado and he was employed as a welder for several years. He later returned to Iowa and was employed as a welder with Featherlite Trailers in Cresco.
Richard had a lifelong love of music. He enjoyed watching movies, John Deere tractors, was an avid Denver Broncos and Iowa Hawkeyes fan, and had a green thumb, especially when it came to growing cactus.
Richard had suffered from polio and its effects, but he never let it limit him. He always was very active playing sports with his siblings and loved working on the family farm with his grandpa and dad. He also was very proud of his Mexican heritage.
Richard was a loving son, brother, uncle and friend. He gave as generously in death, as he did in life, by donating through the Iowa Donor Network.
Left to celebrate Richard's life are his mother, Estefana of Oelwein; his sisters, Mary Anne Meyne of Webster City, Susan (Gary) Clark of La Porte City, Catherine (Don) Ott of Floyd and Brenda (Gerald) Lauer of Stanley; his brothers, David Meyne of Cedar Falls, John Meyne and Joseph (Sally) Meyne, both of Urbana, and LaVerne Meyne of Clinton; and numerous aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harold; and his grandparents, Herman and Elfrieda Meyne and Leonard and Isabel Lujan.
