RICHARD A. MCLAUGHLIN

Richard A. McLaughlin, 85, passed away Monday, Nov. 7, 2016, at ManorCare Health Services in Cedar Rapids. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 14, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion, conducted by Father David O'Connor. The family will greet friends one hour before Mass at the church. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion.
Richard is survived by his children, Cathy (Jim) McCreary of O'Fallon, Ill., Mike (Stephanie) McLaughlin of Solon, Carol (John) Lawlis of Stevens Point, Wis., Mary (Kevin) Kahl of Granger, Ind., and John (Diana) McLaughlin of Marion; 17 grandchildren; and a brother, Jim McLaughlin of New Jersey.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret; a granddaughter, Elizabeth; and two brothers, Donald and George.
Dick was born Aug. 15, 1931, in New York City, the son of John and Martha (Dietz) McLaughlin. He graduated from Garden City High School in Garden City, N.Y., and then attended Villanova University before entering the U.S. Air Force. Dick later received his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and business from the University of Colorado. He then received his MBA from the University of Iowa. Dick married Margaret Cheney who passed away in 2013.
He was employed at Rockwell Collins for 31 years. Dick was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was an avid woodworker and enjoyed golfing and gardening. Dick especially enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.
