Richard L. Thomas entered eternal life on Dec. 10, 2022, at the age of 85. Richard was born on Oct. 30, 1937, in Chicago, to Leo and Mary J (Lukowicz) Thomas. He attended the Dominican House of Studies, River Forest, Ill.; Loras College, Dubuque, Iowa; and College of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minn. He studied theology at St. Francis Seminary in Milwaukee, Wis., and was ordained a priest by Bishop John B. Grellinger on May 28, 1966, at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, Green Bay, Wis.
From 1966 he served in various parishes in the Diocese of Green Bay until he received senior priest status on Oct. 30, 2007. In 2018, Richard requested return to the lay state and received permission on July 5, 2018.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Lynne Thomas.
With faith in Jesus Christ, a Funeral Mass with Fr. Paul Demuth presiding will be offered for Richard at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, at St. Joseph Chapel on the campus of the Green Bay Diocesan Offices at 1825 Riverside Dr., in Allouez.
