Richard L. Bednar, 83 of Vinton, died on Thursday, March 28, 2024 at Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehab in Vinton.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at the Garrison Cemetery with Rev. Stephen Preus officiating.
Richard was born on September 17, 1940, in Vinton, the son of Richard C. and Beatrice (Criswell) Bednar. He was raised by his mother and step-father, Beatrice and Clarence Snyder. Richard graduated from Garrison High School with the class of 1958. He married Elaine Kirchner on July 12, 1961, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Garrison.
Richard worked in building maintenance at Rockwell-Collins for 33 years. He was an excellent athlete and loved sports of all kinds. He especially enjoyed watching his kids and grandkids in their athletic endeavors. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Vinton Country Club and the I.B.E.W.
Richard is survived by his wife, Elaine; children, Brett (Jodi Reynolds) Bednar of Naples, FL, Cyd (Bob) Hanson of Cedar Rapids; grandsons, Brady (Kelsey Smith) Bednar of Kansas City, Evan Bednar of Denver, CO, Matthew (Betsy) Hanson of Cedar Rapids, David Hanson of Peoria, AZ; 2 sisters, Phyllis Dvorak of Cedar Rapids, and Marlys Geiger of Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and step-father Clarence, brother Charles Bednar, and sister Karen Nanneman.
