Richard J. Weber, 80, of Independence, IA died on Sunday, August 25, 2024, at Unity Point – St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, IA.
Richard was born on May 13, 1944, in Independence, IA, the son of Herbert and Elizabeth R. (O’Brien) Weber. He attended the St. John’s Catholic Schools. At sixteen, Richard left school to care for the family farm after his father passed away. Richard soon started working as a machinist at Collins Radio (Rockwell Collins) in Cedar Rapids. In 1965, he entered the United States Army and spent his time in the service in France and Germany. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Specialist in 1967.
Richard returned to his job at Collins Radio after his time in the service. He was introduced to Roseann Ricketts through mutual friends at work. They were married on May 30, 1969, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church in Jesup, IA. They made their home together in Independence and raised their four children.
In 1971, Richard started Weber Electric in Independence. He worked his way up to have his Master Certification in Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, and many other systems. He was known to have the skills to fix anything, and a personality to match the problem at hand. After thirty-seven years Richard retired from Rockwell Collins, in 1999. He loved working and continued to operate Weber Electric until he passed away.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Rosy Weber, Independence, IA, his children; Troy (Dani) Weber, Solon, IA, Sandy Weber, Cedar Rapids, IA, and Chad (Julie) Weber, Independence, IA, a son-in-law, Ryan Witt, Oxford, IA, three grandchildren, Alex Sinn, Brianna Weber, and Drake Weber, three sisters, Marilyn Kerkove, Judy Streets, and Roszella Anderson, two brothers, Bill “Willy”, and Marvin Weber, and many nieces and nephews.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Elizabeth Weber, a daughter, Kimberly Weber, a sister, Alberta Hanson, and two brothers, Jim and George Weber.
Visitation will be held from 5 PM until 8 PM on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at the Reif Family Center – Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence, IA. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, August 30, at the funeral home.
