Richard J. "Rich" Humphrey, 70, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, March 18, 2016, at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City. Memorial services with military rites: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Private family inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; a daughter, Jennifer (Mark) Jacobson of Cedar Rapids; a son, Jason (Danielle) of Ankeny; a brother, Fred (Beverly) of Mason City; a sister, Roberta Durnan of Postville; and four grandchildren, Parker, Kayla, Gavin and Avery.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Edwin; and a sister, Rosaltha.
Rich was born Sept. 28, 1945, in Oelwein, the son of Edwin and Helen "Fern" Hetzel Humphrey. He married Marilyn S. Usher on Sept. 1, 1968, in Cedar Rapids. Rich was a consultant for IBM and retired from there after more than 32 years of service.
He enjoyed everything outdoors: fishing, boating, hunting, riding bikes, motorcycles and camping. His greatest joy, however, was the time spent with his beloved family.
He rode on RAGBRAI several years with Marilyn as his support team and proudly served in the Marines during the Vietnam War.
Rich was a wonderful husband, father, brother and friend whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial fund has been established.
