Richard Lewis Herron, 85, of Marion, formerly of Fort Myers, Fla., passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 12, 2015, at UnityPoint Living Center West in Cedar Rapids.
Richard is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Marion; children, Thomas (Gayle) of Columbiana, Ohio, Amy Tressel (David) of Marion and Bradley Herron (Joseph Newell) of Pembroke Pines, Fla.; grandchildren, Stacey Herron (David Epstein) of Brooklyn, N.Y., Dr. Cynthia Sloan of Conroe, Texas, John Tressel (Bora) of Charlotte, N.C., Chad Herron (Shannon) of Nederlands, Colo., and Stephen Tressel of Marion; great-grandchildren, Ella Tressel of Marion and Dashiell Herron-Epstein of Brooklyn, N.Y.; sisters, Jean (Jack, deceased) Bowman of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Anna (Robert) Lepping of Salem, Ohio; and nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his mother and father.
Richard was born in Salem, Ohio, to Kathryn (Bates) and Edward Herron on May 23, 1930. He attended Salem High School and graduated in the class of 1948. He was united in marriage to Marilyn Burns on July 15, 1950. Richard joined his father in the family business, Herron Foods, after graduation. In 1968, he became president of the snack food distributorship and managed the business until he retired with Marilyn to Kelly Greens in Fort Myers, Fla., in 1995.
Richard was very active and a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Elks No. 305 in Salem, Ohio. He served as Exalted Ruler of the Salem Chapter and District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler.
Richard lived in Fort Myers until 2012 when he moved to Marion, Iowa, with his wife to be closer to family.
He was an active member of Faith United Methodist Church in Fort Myers, where a memorial service will be held in his memory on Saturday, Aug. 15, at 11 a.m. Friends are invited to attend services in the chapel at the church.

Richard was a loving husband and father who will be missed by everyone who knew him.
