Richard H. Schulte, 88, of Cedar Rapids, died at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics on Sunday, July 2, 2017. Services: 10 a.m. Friday at St. John XXIII Catholic Church by the Rev. Dustin Vu. Burial: Hala Cemetery. A vigil service will be held Thursday at 4 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home, where friends may visit with the family Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m., and at the church Friday after 9 a.m.
Richard is survived by his wife, Shirley; five sons, Rick (Ann) of Amana, Jeff of Swisher, Kurt (Marie) of Fairfax, Phil (Charlene) of Cedar Rapids, and Greg (Beth) of Des Moines; daughter-in-law, Christine; 18 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Tom (June) Schulte of Lincolnton, Ga.; sister, Kathy (Leon) Arp of Blacksburg, Va.; sister-in-law, Marlene of Norway; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, LeAnna; son, Neil; and a brother, Robert.
Richard was born Jan. 20, 1929, in Norway, the son of Henry and Helen Schulte. He graduated from Norway High School and then went on to serve in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. On June 11, 1953, Richard married LeAnna Jean McArtor, who passed away on Feb. 13, 2007. Richard farmed, and retired from Midland Forge in 1991 as a shipping foreman.
Richard enjoyed his morning coffee with the guys at Casey's, as well as fishing, mushroom hunting and playing cards. He especially liked getting together with the family for special holidays. Richard will be missed by his family and his many friends.
