Richard "Dick" Franks, 76, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Richard was born Dec. 17, 1940, in Iowa City to Thomas and Francis (McLain) Franks. He worked as a truck driver for most of his career. He was united in marriage to Jane Parker Tesar on Feb. 14, 1988, in Las Vegas.
Richard enjoyed road trips, visiting casinos and playing cards, but his number one love and passion was fishing. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and was well-known as a jokester. He loved to watch sports, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes.
He will be missed by those who loved him.
Richard is survived by his wife, Jane; daughter, Becky Franks (Wayne) of Cedar Rapids; stepdaughters, Dorothy DelValle of Connecticut and Donna Williams of Fairfax; three grandsons, Adam (Jessica) Pilcher, Brendon DelValle and Cynric Williams; brothers, Jerry (Gwen) Franks of Arizona and Ronnie (Melanie) Franks of Cedar Rapids; as well as several extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Richard "Rick" Franks, in 1999; brothers, Robert and Jack Franks; and his beloved shih tzu, Boomer.
