Richard Frank Marks, age 94 and 8 days, of Glenwood, N.M., formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2017, at his residence, the Veterans' Home of Truth Or Consequences, N.M. He died peacefully after a short illness.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Lois Elenor Detlefsen Marks; his older brother, Murray Marks; daughter-in-law, Susan Marks; grandson, Steve Marks; and his parents, Neil and Elizabeth Marks.
Richard is survived by four children, Bruce (Ann), Leslie (Jeff Heefner), Terry and Dennis (Karen); nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Richard was born in 1923 in East Moline, Ill. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, then graduated from the U.S. Army Air Corps pilot training program and was a B-25 pilot during World War II. He married Lois in January 1944. After returning home from the war, he worked for Ilten's until 1975, when he and Lois bought a small business in Glenwood, N.M., and ran it until they retired.
The funeral service will be held Friday, Dec. 1, at Peace Lutheran Church in Las Cruces, N.M., at 10 a.m. Interment will be at 2 p.m. at Fort Bayard National Cemetery with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Peace Lutheran Church, 1701 E. Missouri Ave., Las Cruces, NM 88001.
