Richard John Edwards, 68, of Iowa City, passed away Monday, Jan. 26, 2015, following a brief illness.
Rich was born in Mason City, Iowa, and attended the University of Iowa, earning degrees in English and education. He spent much of his career working as a professor of learning services at Kirkwood Community College helping students prepare for college and life success. He was a respected teacher and leader, and he touched many, many lives.
Rich enjoyed sailing, reading, gardening and raising golden retrievers. His greatest passion was his family.
Rich will be deeply missed by his ex-wife, Janet Godwin; their two children, Emily and Jack; his stepson, Silas Starr; his two brothers, Mark and Phil Edwards; his mother, Margaret Edwards; and nephews and nieces, Mark Jr., Cale, Eleisha and Barbara.
Rich's father, J.O. Edwards, preceded him in death.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Richard Edwards to the Summership Endowment at the Community Foundation of Johnson County, 325 East Washington St., Iowa City, IA 52240. The Summership program provides scholarships for students to attend summer camps and educational programs, activities near to Richard's heart.
