Richard "Dick" E. Edgar, 82, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, June 19, 2015. Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church by the Rev. Ivan Nienhaus. Burial: St. John Cemetery. A vigil service will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Teahen Funeral Home where friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Dick is survived by his wife, Irene; six children, Ted (Sue) Edgar of Newburgh, Ind., Teresa (Mike) Dyer of Cedar Rapids, Michele Meyer (Rick Doll) of Fort Myers, Fla., Michael Edgar of Dallas, Texas, Amy (Jim) Davis of Kennesaw, Ga., and Rebecca (Bill) Kilburg of Cedar Rapids; three stepchildren, Don (Holly) Richards, Debbie Braumann and Diane (Ed) O'Brien, all of Cedar Rapids; 10 grandchildren, Lisa, Chris, Maria, Alicia, Andrew, Bryant, Sean, Alexander, Jackson and Roman; seven great-grandchildren and one more due in July; step-grandchildren, Don Jr., Dustin, Derek, Quinn and Zoey; and one stepgreat-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his son, Christopher; first wife of 53 years, Louise Mackey Edgar; one brother; and three sisters.
Richard Eugene was born on Aug. 30, 1932, in Cedar Rapids, the son of William and Agnes Womochil Edgar. He graduated from St. Patrick High School in Cedar Rapids in 1950 and then served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict from 1952 to 1953, where he earned five medals. He married Irene Gibson Richards on May 5, 2006, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Dick worked as an electrician for over 30 years for Justice Electric.
Dick was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, a proud member of IBEW Local No. 405, the Knights of Columbus and the Antique Car Club of Cedar Rapids.
