Peoria, Arizona
Richard E. (Dick) Swails passed away peacefully on September 8, 2024 in Peoria, Arizona. He is now cheering on his beloved Hawkeyes from heaven.
Dick was born in Iowa City, Iowa and is preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Albertus Swails and his sister, Kathy Fountain. He attended West Branch High School where he excelled in sports, especially football.
Dick had a lifelong passion for his family, friends and community service. Dick served in the United States Army from 1954-1956. Dick also served on the Boards of the Cedar Rapids Knights of Columbus and the Community 1st Credit Union. He retired from his position of over 40 years as Advertising Manager at Iowa Manufacturing.
Dick loved everything IOWA! He was passionate about Hawkeye football, never missing a game both home and away, where he treated all to his famous “Bloody Marys” while tailgating. He loved his home in Solon and was a regular at Lake MacBride golf course, Beef Days, the American Legion, Leos, Friedas and Buffs.
Dick is survived by three children from his marriage to Shirley DeNeve, Cheryl Heckla, Jon Swails and Jamie Baxter (husband Mike) and brother-in law Larry Fountain. He is also survived by his wife Dodie Swails (Foraker) and their four daughters, Lori Deemer (husband Jim), Sherri Rauch (husband Vern), Terri Stahle (husband Doug) and Christi Vachon (husband Don). Dick was blessed with sixteen Grandchildren and twenty Great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Lake MacBride Golf Course, Thursday, October 31 from 4-7 P.M.
