Richard "Dick" Martin Runge, 80, of Iowa City, passed away Thursday, Oct. 20, 2016, at his home in Iowa City.
Richard has deeded his body to the University of Iowa Deeded Body Program. There are no services planned at this time.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Richard was born Sept. 18, 1936, in Denison, Iowa, the son of Martin and Ella (Christiansen) Runge. He graduated from Denison Public High School in 1954 and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1958. He then attended the University of Iowa, where he received his B.A. (1961), M.A. (1963) and Ph.D. (1967) degrees.
On June 13, 1959, he married Miriam Christine Cole at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Iowa City.
Richard served on the faculty of the German Department at the University of Iowa from 1967 until his retirement in 1998.
Richard is survived by his wife, Miriam; his son, Cole (Elizabeth) Runge, and their children, Cole and Samuel, of De Pere, Wis.; his daughter, Christina Runge, and her daughter, Maia, of New Berlin, Wis.; and his sisters, Tina Lewis of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Paula Hassler of Tempe, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Ella; and his brothers-in-law, Bob Lewis and Don Hassler.
