Richard "Dick" Donald Prohaska, 75, of Cedar
Rapids, died Monday, Aug. 14, 2017, at home surrounded by his family after a seven-year battle with cancer. Memorial Mass: 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with the Rev. Christopher Podhajsky officiating. Memorial gathering: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids. Private family burial: Fairfax Cemetery at a later date.
Survivors include his wife, Dianne; children, Christine (Tracy) Jarmon and Michael (Annie) Prohaska; stepson, Daniel Mayer of San Diego, Calif.; 21 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; siblings, Donna (Jim) Krob and David (Cheryl) Prohaska; sister-in-law, Jan Dinter of Davenport; and six nieces and nephews.
Dick was born on St. Patrick's Day 1942 in Cedar Rapids to Richard and Anna (Russell) Prohaska. He graduated from Immaculate Conception and Regis schools with the Class of 1960. After 31 years together, he married his love, Dianne Dinter, on July 20, 2017.
In his younger years, Dick enjoyed riding his motorcycle and obtained his private pilot's license. There were trips to Canada for walleye and top-water bass, and to Mexico in the cold of winter. More than anything, he loved the time spent with his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law, Ruth Dinter; father-in-law, John Dinter; sister-in-law, Dottie Huerter; brother-in-law, Dennis Dinter; and grandson, Jonathon Clay Jarmon.
Memorials in Dick's name may be directed to the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy or charity of your choice.
