Richard "Dick" Allen Hotz, 84, of Troy Mills, passed away Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, at the funeral home. Burial: Troy Mills Cemetery. Military honors by American Legion Post No. 298 of Marion.
Dick was born June 17, 1933, in Marion, Iowa, the son of Raymond and Irma (Wood) Hotz. He graduated from Marion High School in 1951. Dick served with the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1554 in Panama during the Korean War. In his early days, he enjoyed racing cars at Hawkeye Downs.
On Aug. 27, 1969, in Rockford, Ill., Dick was united in marriage to Delight "Dee" Peal. He was employed at Stubers, MACO and Metal Fabricators as a painter until retiring in 2002. Richard was a member of the American Legion Post No. 298 of Marion.
He is survived by his daughter, Karla Hotz Armstrong of Cedar Rapids; son, Michael (Laura) Hotz of Brandon; daughter-in-law, Patti Cole of Cedar Rapids; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother, Larry (Donna) Hotz; and several nieces and nephews.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dee; son, David Cole; and brothers, Robert and Chuck Hotz.
Dick enjoyed fishing and NASCAR racing. He loved his animals and being surrounded by family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, 315 18th Ave., Hiawatha, IA, 52233, in Dick's memory.
