RICHARD "DICK" WILLIAM ASPROOTH

Richard "Dick" William Asprooth, 91, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016. Dick was born on Nov. 21, 1924, in Rockford, Ill., to Martin and Ella Asprooth. He married the love of his life, Marilyn "Lynn" Cropper, on June 20, 1954, in Lyons, Neb.
Dick served in the U.S. Navy from December 1942 through April 1946, participating in two landings in the Philippines. Dick served on the USS Capricornus. He worked all of his life in the trucking industry, working for various organizations including RFK and CRST in Cedar Rapids. Over the years, he worked as a dispatcher, supervisor, terminal manager, general manager and sales representative.
He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, holding many committee appointments. He did volunteer work with the American Red Cross, Cedar Rapids Public Library, Milestones, the History Museum, Lions Club and Heritage Area Agency on Aging. He enjoyed golf, cards and cribbage as well as being an avid Chicago White Sox fan.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his siblings, Lucille, Fritz and Donald.
Besides his wife, Lynn, Dick leaves behind two daughters, Vicki Roy (Joe) of Lincoln, Neb., and Jody Taylor (Ric) of Steward, Ill.; three grandchildren, Luke Taylor (Jamie), Stephanie Roy and Allison Carson (Keenan); and two great-grandchildren, Alex and Abby Taylor
A Celebration of Dick's life will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Visitation with family will take place at St. Paul's on Feb. 13 from 1 to 3 p.m., preceding the memorial service.
Memorials may be given in his name to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 1340 Third Ave. SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52403.
