RICHARD M. BUEHLER
Cedar Rapids
Richard passed from this life on Monday morning, April 3, 2017, at the Carlisle Care Center under the care of Unity Point Hospice.
Richard Martin Buehler, 78, was born Sept. 13, 1938, in Cedar Rapids, the son of George and Velma (Bartosh) Buehler. Following high school, he attended Kirkwood College in Cedar Rapids for two years. He grew up in Luzerne and served his country with the U.S. Navy, serving as
a Navy corpsman (medic) at the age of 18, based out of the Great Lakes Naval Base near Port Huron, Mich.
Richard married Patricia Louise Buehler in Cedar Rapids on Jan. 30, 1960. To this union two daughters were born, Elizabeth and Mary. Richard later married Ann White and later Donna Friese, both in Cedar Rapids.
On Aug. 16, 1986, Richard was united in marriage with Donna Diane Sholley in Des Moines. They were married 26 years. He was employed at Deerborn Brass in Cedar Rapids, Bishop Drumm Care Center in Des Moines and Wayne Dennis Supply in Des Moines.
Richard enjoyed sharing his Navy experience, watching NASCAR, fishing, bowling, playing his guitar and singing. His greatest career path and true love took him to perform country and western music, which he did at numerous fairs and establishments throughout Iowa for 30 plus years, and a short time in Nashville, to cut a demo during his early career.
Richard is survived by daughters, Elizabeth (Terry) Buehler-Sapp of Des Moines and Mary Buehler of Cedar Rapids; his grandsons, Benjamin Bentley Buehler and Matthew Sapp; a great-grandson, Kyle Tousley Buehler; stepchildren, Larry Carder, Teresa Shafer, Nedra Mudra, Rose Duvernay, Tina Baze, Donna Kelly and Dianna Baze; stepgrandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and two half sisters, Darlene (Frank) Fieselman of Cedar Rapids and Lavonne (Jerry) Marek of Vinton, formerly of Center Point.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Donna, on Dec. 25, 2011; and a half brother, Hubert Buehler.
A time of remembrance and celebration of life will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 6, at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton, with a visitation an hour before the services. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery.
A SPECIAL thanks to his friends and caregivers, especially Dorie.
