Richard “Buddie” Suchy, 89 of Elberon, Iowa, passed away Nov. 14, 2023, at Keystone Care Center.
Richard was born May 15, 1934 to Milo Frank and Alice B. (Viktora) Suchy at home in Elberon. He attended country school and worked at Skelly Station in Belle Plaine, Iowa. On Jan. 19, 1953, Richard married Pauline M. Cizek in Vining, Iowa. After buying his first farm in 1955, Richard farmed his entire life. The couple raised their family in rural Elberon on that farm.
Richard enjoyed going dancing with Pauline. He had also in the past called square dances. He always played musical instruments. Richard played the sax in his family’s band in the 1950s, “Milo & his Melodians.” There were always good conversations about old farm equipment/farming at places like The Old Threshers Reunion and Antique Acres.
He was a soft spoken, hardworking man and loved spending time outdoors. He was a member of the Odd Fellows.
Richard is survived by his children, Donna (Tim Dicey) Suchy of Cedar Rapids; Bonnie Wetzel of Cedar Falls; Ginny (David) Werning of Naples, Fla.; Teresa (Ron Toney) Suchy of Elberon and Sandy (Doug) Krough of Gilman. Grandchildren: Astrid Suchy-Dicey, Sienna Gilliam, Carolyn Dicey (David) Jennings, Laura (James) Marvel, Jolene Suchy-Dicey (Theodore) Carr, Lisa (Nick) Newgard, Nicholas Wetzel, Brett (Jennifer Litchfield) Wetzel, Brandon (Bethany) Werning, Jamie (Dan) Parmenter, Haley Heller, Doug Krough II, Shay Hunter, Cheyenne Choneska, and Brittany Krough; 18 great-grandchildren; siblings: DeLonde Suchy of Des Moines; Karen Suchy of Anchorage, AK; Veronica (David) Porter of Baxter and Dan (Verla) Suchy of Elberon.
