Richard Allen Curtis, 71, of Ely, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2022, in his home. Celebration of Life gathering will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Private family interment will be held in Rogers Grove Cemetery near Ely.
Richard was born Sept. 28, 1951, in Manchester, the son of Glenn Marvin and Verna Leone (Hemsath) Curtis. He graduated from Starmont High School, class of 1969. Richard served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1969-73. He worked as a Union Ironworker, Local 89, from 1974-1990. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Iowa in 1997. Richard was united in marriage to Barbara Lynn McIntosh on Aug. 27, 1979, in Peoria, Ill. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, working outside, swimming, occasionally going to the casino, playing cards and, most of all, spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren.
Richard is survived by his wife, Barb; children, Jesse Ryan Curtis of Roland and Anna Irene (Jeff) Payne of Olin; five grandchildren, Dakota Skelton, Haleigh Payne, Parker, Paige and Payton Curtis; his brothers, Mike (Mary) Curtis of Marion and Andy (Brenda) Curtis of Lamont; his sisters, Karen (Larry) Glass and Sharon (Don) Vaske, both of Strawberry Point; his sister-in-law, Patty Kindl of Marion; his brother-in-law, Terry Marks; as well as his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Glenn Curtis Jr.; sisters, Laura, Linda and Kathy Curtis; grandsons, Tanner Skelton and Jaycee Payne; and a sister-in-law, Susan Marks.
