Rhonda K. Shouse, 49, passed away Saturday, March 25, 2017.
She is survived by her daughters, Alexandra Moeller (Aaron) and Cynthia Shouse; two grandchildren, Ophelia and Royce Moeller; and her dog, Bailey.
Rhonda was born and raised in Middletown, Ohio, on July 12, 1967. She moved to Iowa to pursue a career in journalism. She graduated from the University of Iowa, with aspirations of changing the world with facts. Rhonda was a reporter for several newspapers, including the Iowa City Press-Citizen and The Gazette.
After a successful career with words, her mental health advocacy became a prominent part of her life. She was an integral part of several mental health committees and made a lot of headway in helping to organize people with disabilities in Iowa to self advocate. In 2016, she received the Darlene Brown Award for Mental Health Advocacy from the Iowa Empowerment Conference.
Although Rhonda's life was cut short, the love she shared will live on through her family, friends and the people whose lives she has changed forever.
A memorial service has been planned for Friday, March 31, at 4 p.m. at the Hiawatha Community Center, 101 Emmons St., Hiawatha, IA 52233.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established via a GoFundMe campaign in her name.
