82, died Sunday, March 8, 2015, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 13, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Anamosa. Interment will be in the Riverside Cemetery with military honors. Friends may call from 4 until 7 p.m. Thursday at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa. A parish
vigil service will be held
at 3:30 p.m.

Surviving are two daughters, Grace (Ed) Oltmanns and Karen (Dennis) Flemming, both of Anamosa; two sons, Bill of Anamosa and Ronald (Vanessa) of Oklahoma; seven grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and four siblings, June (LaVerne) Ulferts, Anamosa, Ani (Zelda) Adar, Las Vegas, Erna (Lloyd) Young, Missouri and Edwin Topping, Hiawatha.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Hunter; and two sisters, Bionda Boots and Betsy Hartwig.
Rhinhart Topping was born Feb. 28, 1933, in Jones County, near Amber, Iowa. He was the son of William and Elizabeth Topping. He graduated from the Anamosa Community Schools. Rhinhart served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Following his military duty, Rhinhart attended an automotive school in Chicago. He worked as a cab driver in Chicago to pay for his education. On Aug. 22, 1955, he was united in marriage with Helen Sternhagen in Iowa City, Iowa.
Rhinhart worked in automotive repair and specialized in transmission rebuilding. He was employed at Cedar Rapids Truck Center, Stephen Buick and operated his own business, Topping Transmissions for many years.
