Reuben Richard Wenndt, 92, of Lowden, was united in heaven with his wife of 71 years, Joanne (Klavemann) Wenndt and his savior Jesus Christ on Saturday morning, Nov. 4, 2023, at Wheatland Manor. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Nov. 9, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lowden with Reverend Daniel Redhage officiating. Burial will follow with military rites at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until service time at the church.
Reuben was born July 20, 1931, to Richard and Laverna (Miller) Wenndt. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lowden. He was united in marriage to Joanne Klavemann on June 21, 1952. She passed away on Aug. 26, 2023. They were blessed with three children.
Reuben proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict. He resided in Lowden his entire life, working for Mensing Motor as sales manager and mechanic. He also worked for Strackbein’s Implement and plowed gardens with his antique Allis Chalmers tractor. He owned his own fuel oil business, Reuben’s Furnace Oil, for many years.
During retirement, Reuben served as mayor of Lowden for eight years. He also helped at J&J Grocery. He was a master of numerous card games and enjoyed playing with family and friends. He would strike up conversation with friends and strangers everywhere he went.
Reuben was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother Merlin; and sister Darlene.
Those left to cherish the memory of Reuben and Joanne are their daughter Joleen (Randy) Porter; sons Richard (Diane Brockmeyer) Wenndt and Joey (Janise Hintz) Wenndt; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; brother Kenneth (Melva) Wenndt; and brother-in-law Fred Klavemann;
During his final days, Reuben expressed to his children what a wonderful life he had lived.
