Reth, Clara M.
Clara M. Reth, 95, of Delhi, died at home Saturday, May 22, 2010, following a short illness. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 25, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Delaware, Iowa. Family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home in Earlville. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Delhi.
Clara was born Nov. 21, 1914, at Dyersville, Iowa, the daughter of John and Sophia (Hemmer) Quint. She attended country school in Dubuque County. On Feb. 7, 1934, Clara was united in marriage to Charles F. Reth at the family home in Delhi. She was a homemaker before becoming a cook for the Maquoketa Valley Schools, Good Neighbor Home and Diny's Steak House. Charles died in 1965.
Clara was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Delaware, St. Paul's Ladies Aid and the American Legion Auxiliary. The kitchen was her paradise. She loved to cook and work in her garden.
Clara is survived by four children, Berniece Quint of Cedar Rapids, Ray Reth of Delhi, Ruth Wright of Manchester and Harlan (Jodi) Reth of Monroe City, Mo.; five grandchildren, Martha (Kerri Lawrence) Quint, Carrie (Brent) Hammes, Sherri Wright, Richard (Danielle) Wright and Michelle (Brock) Burrington; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, John (Dorothy) Quint of Chetek, Wis.; one sister, Alice Milligan of Cedar Rapids; and one sister-in-law, Joeann Quint of Marion.
Clara was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Reth; her parents, John and Sophia Quint; a brother and son-in-law, Leo Quint; a brother, Ernest Quint, one son-in-law, Bob Wright; one grandson, Dana Reth; and one brother-in-law, Lee Milligan.
