Rens, Bev
Bev Rens, 64, died peacefully on Monday, May 30, 2011, from ALS. A visitation will be held Saturday, June 11, between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Michael J. Manatt Community Center in Brooklyn.
Bev Rens was born Feb. 3, 1947, in Waterloo, to Hazel and Joseph Lilleg. In 1972, Bev married Jay Rens and the two moved to the Brooklyn area. Though Bev and Jay would later divorce, they had two daughters, Andrea and Sarah.
A dedicated nurse, Bev worked at a variety of places, including Grinnell Hospital, Belle Plaine and HLV schools, Surgical Associates in Grinnell, University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, and the Brooklyn Medical Clinic. Bev loved giving back to the community. She was active in many organizations, including Poweshiek County Democrats, BGM school board, Citizens Scholarship Foundation, Brooklyn Historical Society Board, Kiwanis and South Side Circle to name a few.
Bev's favorite activity was spending time with her family and friends, though she also loved gardening, knitting and crossword puzzles.
Bev is survived by her two daughters, Andrea (John) Wasson of Cedar Rapids and Sarah (Jay) Lettow of Des Moines; grandchildren, Morgan and Lucy; and siblings, Barb Lellig, Toni (George) Selden, Mike (Lori) Lilleg, Trish (Joe) Still and Mary (Mark) Holschlag.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Citizens Scholarship Fund of BGM (PO Box 469, Brooklyn, IA 52211) or ALS Association Iowa Chapter (6165 NW 86th St., Suite 205, Johnston, IA 50131).
