Reiter, Mary E.
Mary E. Reiter, 88, of 411 First Ave. West, Cascade, died at 1:35 a.m. Sunday, April 10, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque. Friends and relatives of Mary may call from 8 a.m. until time of service Tuesday, April 12, at Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade. Services for Mary E. Reiter will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Cascade, with the Rev. Douglas Loecke officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Cascade.
Mary was born Feb. 16, 1923, in Dyersville, Iowa, daughter of John and Elizabeth (Pottebaum) Trumm. She received her education in the rural Dubuque County schools, and was a 1939 graduate of the former St. Mary's High School in Cascade. On Nov. 30, 1944, she was united in marriage to Fred J. Reiter at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Temple Hill. The couple farmed in the Cascade area until 1982 when they retired to Cascade.
She was a member of St. Matthias Parish in Cascade and a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas-Our Blessed Mother Court 1926, for which she also held several offices.
She is survived by seven children, Linda Mason of Cascade, Mary (Paul) Carr of Houston, Texas, Jeff (Dianne) Reiter of Cascade, Joyce (Rich) Noonan of Otter Creek, Peg (Jerry Schad) Reiter of San Diego, Calif., Jake (Bev) Reiter of Cascade and Lavonne (John) Noel of Dubuque; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; six siblings, Alma (George) Knepper of Cascade, Dorothy (Lawrence) Yanda of Anamosa, Robert (Betty) Trumm, Millie Hosch, John (Ida) Trumm, all of Cascade, and Lois (Lloyd) Manternach of Worthington; and one sister-in-law, Rosene Trumm of Cascade.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred J. Reiter on Jan. 3, 2005; one son, Chris Reiter at age 3; a son-in-law, Douglas Mason; one brother, LeRoy Trumm; one sister-in-law, Mary Trumm; and one brother-in-law, Edwin Hosch.
The family requests no flowers. Memorials may be given to the Mary E. Reiter memorial fund.
