Redel, Alyce Hastings
Alyce Hastings Redel, 98, died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010, at the Anamosa Care Center. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, at the Maple Hill Cemetery, Cromwell, Iowa. The Rev Laurie Riley will officiate at the service.

Surviving are her son, James H. (Margaret) Redel of Anamosa; two grandsons, Dennis (Jeanne) Redel of Red Oak, and Gary (Kathy) Redel of Johnstown, Colo.; and two granddaughters, Roxann Schrader of Riverton, Utah, and Connie Reffert of Lincoln, Neb.
She was fortunate to also have five stepgrandchildren, Nancy Nedemeyer of Anamosa, Tim (Lynn) Woodley of Aurora, Ore., Jeff (Sam) Woodley of Thompson, Danny (Sarah) Woodley of Shell Rock, and Kristi (Jeff) Flansburg of Swisher.
Alyce had the pleasure of 17 great-grandchildren. who brought much joy and laughter to her life. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Arthur.
Alyce was born Oct. 11, 1912, in Chicago. She was the daughter of Thomas and Edna Stalker Hastings. Alyce moved to the Cedar Rapids area as a very young girl. She married Arthur Charles Redel on Oct. 26, 1930 in Seattle, Wash., and enjoyed 55 wonderful years of marriage. During this time Alyce stayed active working first for Milo Hanzlik & Clinton Schafer Attorneys at Law for more than three years, then for Dr. Ben Woverton and Dr. Robert Sedlacek for more than six years. She was also an officer in Linn County Women's Medical Association and a member of the Cedar Rapids/Marion Women's Medical Association.
Alyce was passionate about golf and passed that love of the game on though her family. She was a member of the Cedar Rapids/Marion Golf Association and was the third president of Squaw Creek Women's Gold Association.
Alyce was very grateful to all who helped her and visited her. She and Art had many great friends along the way! She was especially appreciative of the staffs at Anamosa Care Center and Garnett Place in Cedar Rapids. She loved so many fun things in life, playing bridge, crossword puzzles, watching golf, football, music - Pete Fountain, cooking, traveling, supporting and spending time with her family and especially her little dog, Binky.
Alyce will be missed greatly and her competitive spirit will live on and on within her family and among her friends. Alyce showed great strength, courage and character throughout her life and leaves a legacy of memories that will bring joy forever.
We'll miss you lots and we love you tons, thanks for all the wonderful memories.
