Recker, Joyce Ann
Joyce Ann Recker, 74, of Marion, Iowa, passed away Friday, Nov. 26, 2010, in her home following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Funeral Mass: 11 a.m Tuesday, Nov. 30, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. Family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion, where a parish vigil will begin at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will also be held one hour before services Tuesday at the church. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her children, Victoria (Timothy) Hanna of Marion, Michael (Ann) Recker of Frisco, Texas, Douglas (Heidi) Recker of Marion, Angela (James) Kindig of Cedar Rapids and Amy (William) White of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren, Gregory (Stacy) Hanna, Jennifer Hanna, Robert (fiance Chelsea) Hanna, Allison Kindig, Madison Recker, Peyton Recker, Nicholas Recker, Boede White, and Cassandra White; and her siblings, Bill Kurt of California, Loras (Joan) Kurt of Cedar Falls, Patrick Kurt of Cascade, Alan (Rhonda) Kurt of Cascade, Betty (Alan) Schockemoehl of Dubuque, Carol (Pat) Fenelon of Dubuque, Alice (Tom) Fennel of Iowa City, Donna Kurt of Cedar Rapids, and Linda (Tom) Kearney of Cedar Rapids.
Joyce was born Nov. 3, 1936, in Cascade, Iowa, the daughter of Leo N. and Hilda M. (Manternach) Kurt. She graduated from Cascade High School in 1954 and married her high school sweetheart, James N. Recker, on Oct. 6, 1955. Joyce was dedicated to her faith, family, friends and career. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She owned and operated Joyce's Beauty Salon for 51 years. Joyce was a member of the National Hairdressers Association and Cosmetologist & Barbers of Iowa since 1975.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James; an infant daughter, Mary Sue; her parents, Leo and Hilda Kurt; and a brother, James Victor Kurt.
Joyce's family wishes to express special thanks and gratitude to Dr. Ghosh and the nursing staff at Hospice of Mercy for their outstanding care and support.
