Rebecca "Becky" Sue McCarty, 42, of Hiawatha, died Saturday, June 20, 2015. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 25, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Mount Vernon. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, and one hour before the the service Thursday at the church. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion.
Survivors include her husband, Jay of Hiawatha; three children, Jayson, Payton and Madison, at home; her parents, John and Patricia Fritz of Marion; two sisters, Rusty Ann (Cory) Keeney and Jennifer (Travis) Hawkins, both of Cedar Rapids; mother-in-law, Judy McCarty of Cedar Rapids; a brother-in-law, Jeff (Jennifer) McCarty of Marion; nieces and nephews, Chase and Cora Keeney, Erika and Leo Hawkins and Tiffany and Zachary McCarty; and her grandmother-in-law, Lauretta Petersen of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by grandmother, Violet McCarty; grandfather, Harold Petersen; grandparents, Dorothy (Eugene) Fritz and James and Goldie Bemer; and her father-in-law, John C. McCarty.
Becky was born Nov. 27, 1972, the daughter of John and Patricia (Bemer) Fritz in Cedar Rapids. She graduated in 1991 from Kennedy High School in Cedar Rapids. On Nov. 28, 1992, she married Jay Allen McCarty. She worked at TransAmerica in indexing for 20 years.
Becky was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Mount Vernon. She enjoyed traveling to and attending her children's sporting events and especially spending time with the other families. She enjoyed cooking, camping, collecting bears and spending time with neighbors. Becky's love of animals showed by her fostering kittens for the humane society. She looked forward to decorating for Christmas and attending Madison's dance recitals. Rebecca was a loving and caring person who always put others first.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in memory of Becky.
