Cedar Rapids
Raymond S. Ursino, 56, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015. Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Sept. 26 at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel, with visitation following the service from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
Ray was born in Stoughton, Wis., on April 3, 1959. He graduated from Pleasant Valley High School in Bettendorf, Iowa, and continued on to Scott Community College for a technical degree in refrigeration and air conditioning.
Ray worked for Marriott Hotel in Chicago and moved to Cedar Rapids in 1991 to work for Collins Plaza Hotel. Ray also worked for The Gazette and YMCA.
Ray loved fishing and camping. He was always happy to do anything outdoors.
He was kind and soft-hearted and would do anything to get you to smile. Ray always put others first and never hesitated to help anyone. To Ray, there was no such thing as a stranger, he would know your name in minutes and have you laughing instantly.
Ray is survived by six brothers and six sisters – one from Cedar Rapids, Joan Lacayo; two children, Anthony Ursino (Ashley) and granddaughters, Haley, Lillian and Izabel, and Lindsey Ursino and grandchildren, Jayden and Jordan Perez, of Munster, Ind.; many nieces and nephews, including Daniel Lacayo of Cedar Rapids and Jennifer Lacayo of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and special friend, Rose Wilwol of Cedar Rapids, her children, Lori Kramer, Julie Coleson and Mike Wilwol, and her grandchildren, all of Cedar Rapids.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Safe Place Transitional Housing of Cedar Rapids.
