Raymond U. Lendt, 89, formerly of Lowden and Tipton, died peacefully Monday, Oct. 27, 2014, in the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Bennett, with Pastor Jordan McKinley officiating. Burial and military rites will follow in Oakdale Cemetery, Wilton. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton.

Raymond was born Aug. 25, 1925, on a farm outside of Tipton. He was the son of Herbert and Emma Carolyn Strackbein Lendt. Raymond attended Clarence High School and served his country by enlisting in the United States Navy during World War II. On June 3, 1950, Raymond was united in marriage to Helen Louise Sterner in Atalissa, Iowa. Raymond was a farmer for most of his life and later worked as a security guard for CDS Global. Raymond was a member of the Lowden American Legion Post 366 and a faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bennett.
Raymond is survived by his wife, Helen, who lives in the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty; his daughter, Wendy and husband Larry McDevitt of Maquoketa; his son, Kevin and wife Patricia Lendt of Atalissa; two grandchildren; seven great- grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Wilmot, Delmer and Elmer Lendt; and four sisters, Marie Lupher, Leona Zahner, Myrtle Geertz and Francis Deerberg.
