Raymond P. Brown, 66, of Cedar Rapids, died at his home on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 Second St. SE, by the Rev. Del Bear. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call after 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Moomey-Vogel Post 727.
Raymond is survived by three daughters, Angela (Shane) Williams, Bronson, Rebecca Brown and Sara (Brad) Brecht, both of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Sarah (Keys) Brown; aunts, uncles and cousins.
Raymond was born May 31, 1949, in Cedar Rapids, and was a lifelong resident of the area. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1967. He married Maureen Boston in 1969. They were later divorced. Raymond was employed at General Mills until his retirement.
He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. In 1970, he was honorably discharged from the first cavalry as an E5 sergeant, having earned service medals and a Purple Heart.
Ray generously donated to many animal rescue organizations and was a lover of nature. He loved to tinker with cars and trucks and liked to own the newest and best tool for the job at hand.
A memorial fund has been established and contributions will be given by the family to the many wildlife organizations to which he donated.
