Raymond William Berger, 87, of Middle Amana, died Thursday, Nov. 26, 2015, at Colonial Manor of Amana. Funeral services: 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29, at Middle Amana Community Church, with
Elders Tony Berger and Kristie Yoder officiating. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28. Burial will be in Middle Amana Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be contributed to the Amana Church and the Amana Arts Guild.
Raymond is survived by his wife, Katie, of Middle Amana; a son, Tony (Penni) Berger of Middle Amana; a daughter, Kristie (Bill) Yoder of Middle Amana; five grandchildren, Sam (Alexa) Cutler of Schaumburg, Ill., Ellie Cutler (fiance Danny Walters) of Middle Amana, Hannah (Jarrod) Lister of Cedar Falls, Isaiah and Lucas Berger of Middle Amana; a brother, George (Judy) of South Amana.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Raymond Berger was born Jan. 16, 1928, in South Amana, Iowa, the son of Henry Paul and Elise K. Leichsenring Berger. He graduated from Amana High School in 1946 and enlisted in the U.S. Army. He married Katie Moessner in 1953 at Middle Amana Church. He worked at the Amana Furniture Shop for over 30 years as a cabinet maker.
Raymond was active within the Amana Arts Guild, Amana Heritage Society, was an Amana school board member, a church elder, and was on the Amana Church board of trustees. He enjoyed woodworking and hunting and also was an artist.
