Raymond Francis Auen, 92, of Central City, died Friday, June 30, 2017, at ManorCare Health Services, Cedar Rapids. Funeral service: 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 3, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, by Chaplain Deb Black. Visitation: 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his children, Kathy (Jamie Jasper) Auen, Jean (Pete) Auen-Drahos and Jim Auen; sisters, Gen Stevens and Kris Stevens; grandchildren, Sean Davis, Jeff Davis and Derek Forde; and five great grandchildren.
Ray was born Feb. 7, 1925, in Lake View, Iowa, the son of John and Christine (Janssen) Auen. On July 25, 1953, he married Margaret "Peg" Goetz in Lourdes, Iowa. He worked as a union machinist at Iowa Manufacturing for just over 35 years.
Ray enjoyed Lionel trains, vegetable gardening and watching westerns. He will be remembered for his love of birds and animals.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Peg; several brothers and sisters; his cat, Sissy; and dog, Sinbad.
Memorials are suggested to the Cedar Valley Humane Society.
