Ray Willard Warren, 77,
of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, April 14, 2017, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Friday, April 21, at St. Jude Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. A visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 20, at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home with a vigil service beginning at 4:30 p.m. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Ray was born Nov. 27, 1939, the son of Willard and Ethel (Klien) Warren, in Iowa City. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1960. On Nov. 7, 1961, Ray married Elizabeth Marie Thelen in Iowa City. He owned Wheel Motors in Cedar Rapids, where he worked until his retirement in 1999. After retirement, Ray worked several different jobs, including driving a school bus for Cedar Rapids schools. He was an avid fan of antique cars and was a member of the Model A Ford Club of America and the Antique Automobile Club of America. Ray also enjoyed fishing and lending a helping hand to his neighbors.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Warren; two sons, Edward (Kathryn) Warren and Kevin (Rhonda) Warren; six grandchildren, Jamie Warren, Kameryn Warren, Kristopher Williams, Isabella Warren, Philip Harper and Nick Harper; five siblings, Robert (Ruby) Warren, Helen (Earl) Spinler, Elizabeth Westcott, Doris Nelson and Max (Mary) Warren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Dorothy McNally.
