Ray W. Mitchell, 83, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully after a long illness at Meadowview, Cedar Rapids, on Thursday, April 2, 2015. A memorial gathering will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his children, Jeff Mitchell, Lisa Mitchell and Laure (Scott) Kottman; nephew, Brook Martins; niece, Pam Martins; and cousin, Jerry (Linda) Mitchell.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara; and sister, Rita Martins.
Ray was born Aug. 24, 1931, in Downy, Iowa, son of Ray and Susie Mitchell, and was raised in Cranston, Iowa. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Ray married Barbara Heath in 1957 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. She died in 2012. He worked as head of maintenance at Prairie Schools for many years.
Ray enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, arrowhead hunting and gardening.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
