Ray Logan, 82, of Des Moines, formerly of Van Horne, completed his vocation as husband and father, and passed into eternal life on Oct. 27, 2014, with his wife, Ethel, by his side at Ramsey Village Continuing Care in Des Moines. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone, where a rosary will begin at 7 p.m., and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Ray was born July 22, 1932, in Coggon to John and Mercedes (Crowley) Logan. He graduated from Independence High in 1949. As a young man he farmed with his dad near Independence until he was drafted into the Army in 1953. During the Korean War, he served his nation in the U.S. Army, and was a member of Thomas F. Ray was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Van Horne, Knights of Columbus, Lions Club and Business Club and was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan.
He had been employed at Prudential and later at Blue Cross Blue Shield and at Van Horne Savings Bank as its insurance agent. When the agency was sold, he was employed at Victor Plastics near Marengo for 10 years, retiring at age 70.
His children will remember his gentle and patient ways, his strong work ethic and his willingness to get up before dawn to help his boys deliver the Sunday newspaper every week. His grandchildren will remember his home-made ice cream and jokes, his sincere interest in their thoughts, his love of board games and baseball, and his great appreciation for each of them.
