Raulston, Anne Louise (Bott)
Anne Louise (Bott) Raulston, 65, of Houston, Texas, formerly of Victor, died March 8, 2011, at her home in Houston. Services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, March 26, at Christ Memorial Lutheran Church, 14200 Memorial Dr., Houston. A reception to celebrate Anne's life will be held in the church fellowship hall following the service.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Mazo and Thomas Webber and Fred and Anna Bott; parents, Fred and Ruby Bott; husband, Al Havey; infant sister, Catherine Bott; and niece and beloved wife of Shiloh, Lisanne Foster.
Anne's parents were Fred and Ruby Bott of Victor. She attended grade school at St. John's Lutheran School and graduated from HLV Community High School, Victor, in 1963. Anne then attended St. Luke's School of Nursing in Cedar Rapids, graduating in 1966. She completed additional postgraduate education at the University of Houston.
Following graduation, Anne traveled with nursing friends to Houston, Texas and began a job on the Acute Renal Unit at Methodist Hospital in 1970. She left Methodist for a year and then returned, becoming end-stage renal disease coordinator, part of a three-member team that started the groundbreaking Methodist Outpatient Annex Dialysis Unit, only the second such dialysis unit to open in Houston. Her career took her from Houston to Kerrville to San Antonio and back to the Outpatient Dialysis Unit at Methodist Hospital in the Medical Center.
Anne was defined by her nursing. Her job was her first love. It was her life and her passion. Many colleagues said Anne was the best dialysis nurse anybody could have. One of her patients, the patient on dialysis longest in the nation (43 years), described Anne as the “smartest dialysis nurse you knew.” She was knowledgeable about everything related to dialysis. She was a good pharmacologist, chemist, and diagnostician. She was clinically-oriented” and devoted to her patients. Anne was an active member of the American Nephrology Nurses Association (ANNA).
Her other passion: music, which brought her great joy and comfort.
She has four younger living siblings (in age order): Ruth Foster, Michael (and Harleen) Bott, Jean Bott (and Karla Miller) and Phil (and Pat) Bott. Her nieces and nephews include Shawn (and Kristen) Foster, Shiloh Foster, Zach (and Cassie) Bott, Stephanie (and Keith) Allison, Erin (and Grant) Finch, Janelle (and Todd) Roberts and Justin Bott. Grandnieces and grandnephews include Avery Foster, Jaisel and Cooper Bott, Katy, Robbie and Rubyanne Allison, Collin Finch and Samuel and Benjamin Roberts. Anne had many cousins, including Roger and Patty Pawlak of Victor and other relatives. Anne's good friend and beloved cat, Bambi, lived with her for 18+ years.
Anne loved her family, co-workers and friends; most especially, she loved her many patients to whom she devoted her life ... and they loved her back.
Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, Victor, and The Kidney Foundation (Houston Chapter).
