Randy William Mogensen, 58, of Marion, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2022, after a courageous journey with cancer. He fought endlessly to give us as much time with him as possible. He is now at peace with his eldest daughter Lainie again.
Randy was born on Feb. 18, 1964, in Des Moines, Iowa. His parents were Clarence “Mogie” and Margaret “Peggy” Mogensen. Growing up on a farm, Randy knew the value of hard work early on, but he would reminisce about growing up there with his older sisters. He would share stories of his life with his daughters, often while in the kitchen baking cookies. Randy’s mom was the one that gave him his love of sports, even teaching him how to play baseball. In school, he played different sports and was involved in musical theater. He graduated from North Des Moines High School in 1983.
In 1985, Randy met the love of his life, Kim, through mutual friends in Cedar Rapids. Randy and Kim were married on June 27, 1987. Over those 35 years, they have made a wonderful life full of love, laughter, and friendship. They had three beautiful daughters together, Lainie, Morgan, and Chloe. Lainie passed away unexpectedly on Oct. 17, 2022, leaving a hole in the hearts of those that loved her. The family is comforted knowing they are together again during this heartbreaking time.
Randy loved all things sports, whether it was playing, watching, or talking about them. He played softball for most of his adult life, making many friends on and off the field. Music was another lifelong passion, and his musical taste was just as unique as he was. He enjoyed going to concerts with family and friends. Randy and Kim loved traveling to see shows and sporting events in new venues.
Randy was preceded in death by his daughter, Lainie Mogensen; parents, Peggy and Mogie Mogensen; father-in-law, Del Keasling; and uncle, Rick Holt.
He is survived by his wife, Kim Mogensen; daughters, Chloe Mogensen and Morgan Robertshaw; sons-in-law, Eric Henderson and Greg Robertshaw; grandson, Marz Robertshaw; sisters, Mindy Lesmeister and Cindy Brady; mother-in-law, Connie Vieth; aunts, Sue Holt and Janet Merical; and uncle, Carl Mogensen.
We invite family and friends to attend the memorial services on Thursday, Dec. 1, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, 4200 First Ave. NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402. The visitation will begin at 3 p.m. at the Cedar Memorial Chapel Stateroom and the funeral will follow at 5 p.m. in the chapel. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
