RANDALL "RANDY" JAMES MAHER Mount Vernon Randall "Randy" James Maher, 65, of Mount Vernon, died unexpectedly from health issues on Saturday, June 3, 2017. Funeral services are being planned for the week of June 11, 2017. Complete service information will appear later this week. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. Randy was born Aug. 15, 1951, in Iowa City, Iowa, to John Francis Maher Jr. and Jeanne Elizabeth (Porter) Maher. He graduated from Regis High School in Cedar Rapids in 1969 and attended Marshalltown Community College. Randy was united in marriage to Christine "Tina" Catherine Clinton on Oct. 10, 1981, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Randy was the owner and operator of multiple franchises of Roto-Rooter Sewer and Drain Cleaning, operating home base in Linn County. Randy was a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids and St. John's Catholic Church in Mount Vernon. He was a proud supporter of several organizations including Aiming For A Cure, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Ducks Unlimited of Palo, White Tails Unlimited and the National Wild Turkey Federation. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed both hunting and fishing. Randy was a "hobby farmer" who raised horses, mules and cattle. He particularly had a love for his long eared mules and his peacocks. Randy will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Survivors include his wife, Tina; two sons, Nathan (Nicole) Maher of Troy Mills and John Maher of Mount Vernon; two daughters, Katie (Mitch) Spenner of Central City and Kristin Maher of Cedar Rapids; his mother, Jeanne Maher of Hiawatha; two sisters, Deborah (Craig) Rambo of Waukesha, Wis., and Mary (Donald) Patterson of West Palm, Fla.; his brother-in-law, Craig (Vickie) Clinton of Marion; two sisters-in-law, Sherry Hill of Anamosa and Angela (Robert) Basta of Melbourne, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Kaylee, Gabby, Ava, Finn, Clayton, Cole and Kelbi; several nieces and nephews; extended family to include his many past and present employees; and good friends. Randy was preceded in death by his father, John Maher.
