Randall Lynn Clemens, 71, of Coralville and formerly of West Point, passed away at his home on Thursday, November 21, 2024.
Randall was born on January 23, 1953 to Maurice and Georgia Clemens in West Point, Iowa. He was a 1971 graduate of Marquette where he was a top-performing athlete. He played baseball, softball and basketball and was named Conference Player of the Year his senior year.
Known by many as “Clem,” “Clem-bob” or “Root,” Randy became an accomplished golfer after losing his leg in a construction accident in 1981. He was a multi-year city champion and winner of the state amputee tournament. He was a well-known and beloved competitor in golfing around West Point and Iowa City.
Randy also loved fishing, especially catfishing on the Mississippi River near Fort Madison with his brother, Mark.
After a 30-year career with the US Postal Service, Randy spent much of his time with friends golfing and tending to what became an impressive flower array just outside the back patio door of his Coralville apartment. He loved sitting in the sun and watching the birds and squirrels that would frequent his urban oasis.
Randy was preceded in death by both parents. He is survived by his brother, Mark “Mo” Clemens of Fort Madison; son, Chris (Hillary) Lee of Burlington and two grandchildren. He also leaves behind several very beloved close friends, many of whom he had known most of his life.
Per Randy’s wishes, no funeral services will be held. Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service in Coralville. A celebration of life will be planned for a later date.
