Rand "Randy" S. Evans, 66, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Jan. 29, 2019, at Mercy Medical Center from reoccurring malignant melanoma after 34 years. Memorial service: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Randy was born on July 11, 1952, to Robert "Bob" and Jacqueline Jeanne (Hollands) Evans. He married Vicky Thoeming on May 20, 1978, in Tipton, Iowa.
Randy graduated from Kennedy High School in 1970, Kirkwood Community College in 1972 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and the University of Iowa in Iowa City in 1974. He worked at Quaker Oats in Cedar Rapids for 20 years and Cargill Corn Milling in Cedar Rapids for 16 years. He was the past president of the Thursday Noon Optimist Club. Randy was a season ticketholder for 40 years for the University of Iowa wrestling team. He enjoyed many trips to the Big Ten and NCAA wrestling tournaments. Randy was an avid Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan. He also loved traveling, especially those cruises with his in-laws.
Survivors include his wife, Vicky Evans of Marion; mother, Jacqueline Jeanne Evans of Cedar Rapids; brother, Rick (Gail) Cooper-Evans of Sugar Land, Texas; nephew, Nicholas Evans of Miami, Fla.; several step-nieces and step-nephews; parents-in-law, Webb and Eleanor Thoeming of Tipton, Iowa; sister-in-law, Sandy (Terry) Toal of Sioux Falls, S.D.; various aunts, uncles and dozens of cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father; and grandparents, Fred and Wilhelmina Hollands.
