Ranck, James 'J.P.'
James “J.P.” Ranck, 82, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, April 1, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital. Services: 4:30 p.m. Monday, April 9, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, by the Rev. Dr. Katie Hopper. Masonic services by Iowa Memorial Lodge 2 and military honors by American Legion Post 727 will be held following the services. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.
J.P. is survived by his wife, Becky; son, Randy (May) of California; sister-in-law, Louella Ranck; niece, Twila Ranck; great-nephew, Chad (Barb) Ranck; and great-great-nephew, Dillon Ranck.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Polly Ann; brother, Stanley; sister, Audrey Fisher; and nephew, Lowell Ranck.
J.P. was born Jan. 21, 1930, in Clearfield, Iowa, the son of Doris and Edna (Heaton) Ranck. He served in the Air Force during the Korean conflict as a flight mechanic. He married Becky Pewsey on July 1, 1978, in Cedar Rapids.
J.P. was a schoolteacher and administrator, a manager at Telco Credit Union, and a loan officer at Iowa Community Credit Union. In his retirement he worked for over 15 years for Ampco Systems Parking at The Eastern Iowa Airport.
J.P. was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Corning, Iowa, Mended Hearts, Westminster Presbyterian Church and a lifetime member of the NEA.
J.P. will be remembered as a soft-spoken, tenderhearted, compassionate man who had many treasured friends and a loving family. He enjoyed throwing pots, playing cards, fishing, camping, gardening, feeding and watching the birds and following the Iowa Hawkeyes.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Westminster Presbyterian Church or Mended Hearts, 1501 Perry St. SW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404.
