Rammelsberg, John S.
John S. Rammelsberg, 79, a resident of Crestview Acres, Marion, died there Monday Dec. 7, 2009. Memorial services: 1 p.m. Saturday, Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, with military honors by the Iowa National Guard.
Survivors include his children, John Rammelsberg (Ginger) of Cedar Rapids, Paul Rammelsberg (Joanne Dvorak) of Cedar Rapids, Andy Rammelsberg (Lisa) of Cedar Rapids, and Celeste Bour (Tony) of Eagan, Minn.; his siblings, Bernadine Hoyt of Cedar Rapids, and Martha Holmes (Jack) of Cedar Rapids; his grandchildren, Kyle Rammelsberg (Laura) of Bowie, Md., Ashley Rammelsberg of Albuquerque, N.M., Matthew Rammelsberg of Cedar Rapids, Devin Rammelsberg of Cedar Rapids, Shannon Rammelsberg of Cedar Rapids, Racheal Bour of Eagan, Minn., and Alex Bour of Eagan, Minn.; a great-grandson, Conor Rammelsberg of Bowie, Md.; and his former wife, Ruth Brouse of Cedar Rapids.
His parents preceded him in death.
John was born Feb. 19, 1930, in Cedar Rapids, the son of John and Berniece Hamilton Rammelsberg. John farmed in the Palo area for most of his life and later worked at St. Luke's Hospital. He was a member of St. Marks Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids and served in the Marie Corp during the Korean War. He enjoyed dancing, bowling, fishing and playing golf.
