Ralph Miles Smouse, 83, of Marshalltown, passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.
Funeral services for Ralph will be held Friday, May 5, at 5 p.m. at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Ralph Smouse was born June 1, 1933, in Bayard, Iowa, to Miles and Elva Holm Smouse. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy on the USS Boxer during the Korean War. On Nov. 22, 1951, Ralph was united in marriage to Nancy Avery in Des Moines. He had been employed by Dunham-Bush for 10 years and Marshalltown Manufacturing for 15 years. Ralph owned and enjoyed operating Indian Town Collectibles for over 35 years until 2016.
Ralph was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed antiques, gardening, pets, visiting with friends and strangers, and above all else, his family.
Ralph is survived by his wife of 65 years, Nancy; children, Julie (Ron) Metz, Jeff (Doris) Smouse and Kathy (Larry Hulse) Smouse-Hulse; grandchildren, Christopher Metz, Amanda (Matt) Bemer, Ashley Metz, Andrew (September) Miles Hulse, Tayler Hulse, Stephanie Eich, John (Jeni) Eich, Sara (Jason) Stevens and Jordan Wheeler; great-grandchildren, Daphne Bemer, Maximus Stevens, Madelyn Stevens, Morgan Stevens, Steven Eich, Parker Eich and Hayden Eich. He also is survived by other friends and family members.
Ralph is preceded in death by his parents, Miles and Elva; and his two brothers, Richard Smouse and Gary Smouse.
