Ralph Russell Day, 85, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Monday, Dec. 17, 2018, at the Ed & Joan Hemphill Hospice Unit within St Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Per Ralph's wishes, there will be no visitation or services. Burial at a later date at Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids.
Ralph was born Nov. 9, 1933, in Madison, Wis., the son of John H. and Ruth H. (Webster) Day. He married Arlene Salzbrenner on Nov. 6, 1953.
After returning from U.S. Army duty, Ralph laid carpet for over 25 years and worked in the factory at Universal Gym. Ralph loved watching the Green Bay Packers and he loved his Ford cars and trucks. His hobbies included building cars and hot rods and racing; including go-karts, stock cars and drag racing. Ralph's favorite car was his custom 1936 Ford Cabriolet that he owned for over 61 years.
Ralph is survived by his wife, Arlene; his four children, Pam (Barb) Day of West Salem, Wis., Steve (Kathy) Day, Ron (Dana) Day and JoAnn Day-Webster all of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren, Chris (Tonya) Resheske, Chris (Ann) Day, Derek (Ashley) Day, Veronica Day, Vicky Day, Sandy Day and David Webster; three great-grandchild, Trevor Resheske, Hannah Resheske and Saria Day; and his sister, Pauline Gouran.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; and his two brothers, John A. and Malcolm.
