Ralph E. Berstler, 85, passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at his home in Cedar Rapids. Services, with military honors, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 1, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. A visitation will be Monday, March 31, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include his children: sons, Thomas (Debra), Valley Center, Calif., Richard (Sheri), Fairfax, and Robert (Janan), Solon; daughter, Jill Berstler, New Hampton; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Delmer (Luella), Cedar Rapids; his special friend, OraLee Hollingsworth; and many nieces and nephews.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Clara (Herdliska) Berstler; his wife, Kathryn; and two brothers, Le Roy and Russell "Dean."
He was born Feb. 25, 1929, to Carl and Clara Berstler in North English, Iowa. Ralph married Kathryn McDonald on Sept. 28, 1957, in Washington, Iowa.
Ralph worked for Quaker Oats for 29 years. He served in the Air Force from 1950 to 1954. He was a member of Stellapolis Masonic Lodge 391 in Williamsburg for 50 years and a member of the I-Hawk Club as an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan!
Ralph always said "A short pencil is better than a long memory."
Ralph was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, with many friends.
He has left us with wonderful memories and we feel blessed to have had him in our lives.
