Raetz, Mabel J.
Mabel J. Raetz, 94, a resident of Winslow House Care Center, Marion, died Saturday, April 2, 2011, at the care center. Service: 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 5, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Marion. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. today at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her daughters, Carol (Bob) Orton of Cedar Rapids, Linda (David) Clark of Marion, and Donna Anderson of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Ron (Chris) Schantz, Laura (Lyle) Pearson, Van (Sheryl) Smiley, Robb (Melissa) Smiley, Maria (Casey Pearson) Clark and Jared (Jennifer) Marchal; great-grandchildren, Austin and Sydney Schantz, Nick and Ashley Everhart, Robynn (Eric) Anderson, Rachel Pearson, Elizabeth Smiley, and Lucas, Kendra and Megan Smiley; and a brother-in-law, Howard Heath of Glendale, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence; an infant daughter, Harriet; granddaughter, Kathy Schantz; three sisters, Ethel Heath, Rowena Dixon and Ruth Coon; and three brothers, Merle, Paul and Kenneth Coon.
Mabel was born August 7, 1916, the daughter of Frank and Millie (Lochner) Coon, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. On August 12, 1933, she was united in marriage to Clarence Raetz in Oxford Junction, Iowa. He died Dec. 26, 1995. Together, they farmed in the Troy Mills and Springville areas for 47 years. Clarence and Mabel were longtime members of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Marion. They enjoyed farming, family get-togethers and going to auctions.
Memorials may be directed to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Marion, in memory of Mabel.
