Rae Jean Yakish, 74, of Cedar Rapids passed away on November 15, 2023. Visitation:4 - 7 PM on, Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and from 10-11 AM, Wednesday, November 22 at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 AM, Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Rae Jean was born on October 21, 1949, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Ray and Jane (Seifert) Struve. She graduated from Regis High School in Cedar Rapids. Rae Jean was united in marriage to William Douglas “Bill” Yakish on June 13, 1970, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She began her working career at NW Bell Telephone Company. Rae Jean later taught Religious Education classes and worked at three Optometrist offices. She finished her working years as a Special Education Associate at Transition Center. Rae Jean retired in the early 2000’s and enjoyed her time with her grandchildren and traveling with Bill. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Rae Jean eventually entered the Memory Care unit at Cottage Grove Place in her final months. The family wishes to thank Cottage Grove Place and Hospice of Mercy for the wonderful care that was given to Rae Jean.
Survivors include her husband of fifty-three years Bill of Cedar Rapids, children Brian of Cedar Rapids, Brent (Erin) of Robins, Bradley of Cedar Rapids, and Jana (John) Zach of Pewaukee, WI, grandchildren Ashlyn, Camden, Greyson, and Ainsley, step grandchildren Tyler, Taryn, Mattysen, and Mikayla, and brothers Richard (Diane) Struve of Cedar Rapids and Robb Struve of Wisconsin.
Preceding her in death were her parents.
Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association or Iowans for Life.
