Rachel Thorpe
RACHEL LORELEI CARPENTER THORPE
Iowa City
Rachel Lorelei Carpenter Thorpe, 21, died Wednesday, March 16, 2022, in Iowa City, Iowa. She was an organ donor and her family hopes many other lives will be saved by the tragedy of her untimely death. Rachel was born Sept. 21, 2000, to Lance Thorpe and Cherise Carpenter. She attended Iowa City schools and graduated from City High School in 2019.
Rachel was a shining light in her family's life. Her beautiful smile and slightly wicked sense of humor will be missed by all who loved her. She loved to travel and see new places. She joined her family in visiting many of Iowa's parks in their camper. She loved to take rides with her dad on his motorcycle, and took many trips with her grandparents over the years. She was artistic, liked to do craft projects, and reflected her sense of style in the many different colors she dyed her hair. She was a dog whisperer from an early age. In fact, she loved all kinds of animals and kept many pets. She was also a great cook and loved to feed her friends. Her close friends called her Sunny and she enjoyed spending time with them listening to music, playing games, taking great pictures, and laughing together.
Rachel is survived by her parents, Lance Thorpe and Cherise Carpenter; her brother, Ben Thorpe; grand-parents, Howard Carpenter and Robert and Karen Thorpe; and her boyfriend, Oliver Myers. She is also mourned by many aunts, uncles, cousins and her many dear and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Joyce Carpenter; and uncle, Mark Carpenter.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for friends and family from 2 to 4 p.m. April 9 at the Park Lodge at Terry Trueblood Recreation Area, 579 McCollister Blvd., Iowa City, Iowa. Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service is helping with arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the family.
